Spouse visas after a Pakistani marriage: UK, Canada, USA and the Gulf
What each route actually requires, how long it really takes, and the paperwork to start collecting before the nikah rather than after.

Families arranging an overseas match often treat the visa as an administrative detail to handle afterwards. It is the longest and most expensive part of the process, and decisions made at the nikah affect it directly.
United Kingdom. The spouse visa route requires the sponsor to meet a minimum income threshold, which has risen sharply in recent years and has been subject to further planned increases — check the current figure on GOV.UK rather than relying on what a relative went through three years ago. You will need an English language qualification at the required level, evidence of a genuine and subsisting relationship, and accommodation details. Processing typically runs to several months. The route to settlement takes years, not months, with an extension partway.
Canada. Spousal sponsorship splits into outland and inland applications. The sponsor must meet eligibility requirements and sign an undertaking for a defined period. Processing times are published by IRCC and move constantly. Canada scrutinises relationship genuineness closely, and arranged marriages are entirely acceptable — but the evidence file needs to show the relationship, not merely the ceremony.
United States. A citizen spouse files an I-130 petition; the timeline differs substantially between citizen and green-card-holder sponsors. Consular processing happens through the US Embassy in Islamabad. Affidavit of support requirements apply. This route rewards patience and punishes incomplete files.
The Gulf. Family residence visas depend on the sponsor's salary and profession, with each country setting its own thresholds and eligible job categories. A sponsor in a category that does not permit family residence cannot bring a spouse regardless of income.
What to collect before the nikah, not after. A certified nikah nama, attested by the relevant authorities. Original CNICs and passports. Photographs from the events, with guests. Evidence of contact before the marriage. Proof of the sponsor's income and accommodation.
The mistake that costs the most. Registering the marriage late. Every route needs a registered marriage certificate, and reconstructing registration months afterwards from another country is slow, expensive and occasionally impossible.
On honesty. An arranged marriage is not a suspect marriage anywhere. What officials look for is a genuine relationship and a consistent account. Families who exaggerate, or who coach a candidate to describe a courtship that did not happen, create the very inconsistency the interview is designed to find.
Immigration rules change frequently and none of this is legal advice. Verify current requirements on the official government site for the country concerned before filing anything.
