Arain families form one of the largest biradari groups in central Punjab and are well represented on the site, from the old agricultural households of Kasur and Okara to professional families in Lahore and Faisalabad and a substantial diaspora.
That size is an advantage worth using properly. In a large biradari the binding constraint on a search is almost never the biradari itself; it is the city, the profession and the age range set alongside it. None of this is adversarial. Both families are doing it, and doing it openly is faster and less awkward than finding out slowly through rumour.

- Education attested through the Higher Education Commission for Pakistani degrees
- For a business, the registration details, and the premises seen rather than described
- Land or property claims checked against the record rather than taken on the word of either side

The mistake that costs most here
Business income is harder to verify than a salary and it is more often overstated, usually by rounding upwards rather than by outright invention. A salary has a payslip and an employer behind it. A business has whatever its owner says about it, so ask for the registration details, visit the premises on a working day rather than a Sunday, and ask the district references about the business specifically rather than about the family in general.

Searching a large biradari without strangling the list
Arain is one of the bigger groups on this site, which makes this page unusual: the problem here is almost never too few Arain profiles. It is a search with four filters set tight at once, which would return nothing in any biradari.
Where the households actually are
Lahore and Faisalabad carry the largest concentrations, with Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara and Sahiwal substantial behind them and households across the surrounding districts. Punjabi is usual at home, with Urdu alongside it in the cities. The practical point is that these places are close together: a family in Kasur and a family in Lahore are an hour apart, and an Okara household and a Sahiwal one are effectively in the same network. Setting the city filter to a single municipality in central Punjab throws away matches that are a short drive from the doorstep.
Which filter to open first
City, every time, and keep the biradari. In a large biradari concentrated in a cluster of neighbouring districts, opening the city is nearly free in terms of distance and roughly multiplies the list. Age range second: two years either side is the single cheapest widening anybody can make and families resist it for reasons they rarely examine. Profession third, and only if it was ever a real requirement rather than an aspiration written down in the first week. Sect last, or not at all if it genuinely matters, because that is the one filter where loosening it usually produces proposals nobody will accept.
The diaspora is thinner than it feels
Arain families are well represented in the United Kingdom, Canada, the Gulf, Europe and Australia, but spread across all of them the number in any one city is small. Families searching overseas routinely pick a single country, find four profiles and conclude the pool does not exist. Set the country open instead and look at the whole diaspora at once; then narrow once you have a shortlist rather than before you have one.
Reading an agricultural household correctly
A great many Arain households hold land, and the word landowner covers a very wide range. It can mean a few acres worked by the family, a substantial holding worked by tenants, or land held jointly with brothers and uncles in a way that has never been formally divided. The last of those is extremely common and worth understanding before anybody describes the family as wealthy: land held undivided among several heirs produces income for whoever is farming it and very little that is realisable by anyone else. Ask how much, where, whether it is divided, and who actually draws an income from it.
Jahez: what the law provides, and the one part that is useful
There is a statute on dowry in Pakistan. Almost nobody follows the headline provisions, which is worth saying openly rather than pretending otherwise. One provision in it is nonetheless genuinely valuable, and a bride side family that uses it is protected in a way that most are not.
What the Act says
The Dowry and Bridal Gifts (Restriction) Act 1976 draws three distinctions. Dowry is property given to the bride by her parents in connection with the marriage, excluding anything she inherits. A bridal gift is property given to her by the bridegroom or his parents, excluding mehr. A present is anything else given in connection with the marriage, to either party or to their relatives.
It then caps all of them. The aggregate value of the dowry and presents given to the bride by her parents may not exceed five thousand rupees, and the same ceiling applies to the bridal gifts and to presents given to the bridegroom. No individual present to either party may exceed one hundred rupees. Total expenditure on the marriage itself, excluding dowry and gifts but including the mehndi, the baraat and the valima, may not exceed two thousand five hundred rupees. Nothing may be given more than six months before or after the nikah, or the rukhsati if that is later.
Why nobody follows it
Those figures were set in 1976 and have never been revised. They are not small, they are historic, and treating them as a live ceiling would mean no Pakistani wedding of the last forty years has been lawful. That is the honest position, and it is also why the enforcement route is so narrow: an offence under the Act is triable only by a Family Court, and the court may take cognizance only on a written complaint made by or under the authority of the Deputy Commissioner within nine months of the nikah. The penalty, where it is ever reached, is imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of up to ten thousand rupees, or both, and the dowry or gifts in question are forfeited to the Federal Government to be used in marrying poor girls.
The provision that is worth using
Section 8. The parents of each party are required to furnish the Registrar with a list of the dowry, bridal gifts and presents, item by item, with values, signed or thumb-marked and attested by at least two witnesses. Items given at or before the marriage are listed then; anything given afterwards is listed within fifteen days. The parents are also required to submit the details of the marriage expenditure within a week, and the Registrar forwards all of it to the Deputy Commissioner inside fifteen days.
Treat that as a form to be completed rather than a bureaucratic nuisance, because of what it becomes later. Where a marriage ends, the recovery of dowry articles is one of the matters a Family Court decides, and the whole difficulty in those cases is proving what was given. A witnessed, itemised, contemporaneous list settles that question before it is ever asked. Without one it becomes two families remembering different gold sets three years after the event.
A note on the display requirement
Families are often told the law forbids displaying the dowry. It provides the opposite: section 7 requires the parents of each party to display the dowry, bridal gifts and presents at the rukhsati so that they are visible to those attending. Whether a family wants to is another matter entirely, and plenty choose not to.
What to actually do
Agree what is being given, write it down with values, have two witnesses sign it, keep a copy with the nikah nama and give a copy to the bride herself rather than to her father. Do the same for the bridal gifts coming the other way. It takes an afternoon, it costs nothing, and it is the only part of this statute that will ever do anybody any good.
