Rishta questions families ask

From what a membership costs to who can see a daughter’s photographs, and what happens to everything if you delete the account. Updated 3 October 2026.

Fifty-four questions, grouped. Every answer describes what the site actually does today — where something is not built yet, or not switched on yet, the answer says so instead of describing a plan.

About the service

Is ByahMe a dating app?

No. There is no chat, no inbox, no swiping and no browsing of anybody’s photographs. It is a matrimonial listing service for families looking for marriage. The only thing you can do to another member is ask to see their photographs or their WhatsApp number, and they have to say yes.

Do you arrange the marriage yourself?

No. We provide the search and the introduction; the families decide everything after that. We do not search on anybody’s behalf, put profiles forward, negotiate, mediate or attend meetings. Once a number is shared the families take it from there on WhatsApp.

Who can join?

Anyone 18 or over who is legally free to marry and genuinely seeking marriage. The service is built for Pakistani Muslim families and the profile fields assume it — sect, biradari, religious practice, Hafiz-e-Quran — but the rules we actually enforce are the three above, and they are set out in clause 3 of the terms. Profiles found to be already married or misrepresenting themselves are removed without refund.

Can parents or siblings create the profile?

Yes, and many do. At registration, choose My daughter, My son, My sister, My brother or A relative instead of Myself, and fill in the guardian name and mobile on the profile. Nothing about a family-run profile is marked differently or ranked lower.

How is this different from a marriage bureau or a rishta aunty?

Three things. The price is published and the same for everybody, so nobody is quoted a different figure for the same service. Nothing about you moves without your own press of accept, rather than a biodata being passed around a circle you cannot see. And every request, decision and payment leaves a record in your account that you can point to later. What a good bureau has and we do not is a person who knows both families, which is why we tell you plainly on the quality page that the checking is yours to do.

Do you have a mobile app?

The site is built to work as an app on a phone. Open it in your browser and use Add to Home Screen, and it opens full-screen with its own icon, with no download and no store account. There is nothing on an app that is missing from the website.

Is the site in Urdu?

The interface is in English at present. Urdu is in the plan rather than in the product, and we would rather say that than show a half-translated page. You can write your own profile text in Urdu and it will display correctly — the page already loads an Urdu typeface.

Which cities in Pakistan do you cover?

Every major city and a great many smaller ones — Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Gujranwala and Sialkot among them. The full city list has the rest.

Do you have rishtas for overseas Pakistanis?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. There are pages for the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Australia, with the rest here. Every profile states residency status and whether the member will relocate, so a Pakistan-to-abroad match is not a guessing game.

How does the compatibility score work?

Every profile you open is scored against your own on nine things, weighted in this order: sect, biradari, the age gap, country, education, city, mother tongue, marital status and family type. The reasons are listed beside the score, so you can see what matched and what did not. It is there to save you time. It does not decide anything and it is not a prediction.

Can I filter by biradari, caste or sect?

Yes. Biradari and sect are fields on every profile and both are search filters, alongside city, country, education, profession, marital status and age. There are hub pages for the larger biradaris too — Syed, Rajput, Jatt, Arain and Pathan among them.

Can I search for a Hafiz-e-Quran rishta?

Yes. Hafiz-e-Quran is a field on the profile rather than a claim buried in the text, and there is a Hafiz-e-Quran page. Religious practice, school of thought and dress are separate fields, so a family can be specific without having to ask.

Can I search by profession?

Yes, and there are hub pages for the professions families ask for most — doctor, engineer and the rest. Occupation, employer type, institution and field of study are all separate fields, so “doctor” means something more specific than the word.

Why does a city page sometimes show profiles from elsewhere?

Because the honest alternative is an empty page. When a city has few profiles of its own we widen one ring — to the province, then the country — and the page says so in a line above the listings, telling you how many are from that city and where the others came from. We would rather show you that sentence than quietly pad the page.

Privacy and photographs

Who can see my photographs?

Nobody, unless you personally accept their request. Photographs are locked by default, they are never shown on a public page, and they are released one member at a time.

What does somebody who is not logged in see?

A card carrying a reference such as BM-PK-1042 rather than a name, with bride or groom, age, city, country, education, profession, marital status, sect and biradari. No photograph, no WhatsApp number and no email address, at any price. None of it is written into the page itself either — the listings load afterwards from a feed marked noindex, so no member is filed in a search engine under their own biodata.

Can somebody screenshot my photos after I accept?

A screenshot is always possible on any website, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What we do is make it traceable and awkward: every unlocked photograph is stamped across its whole surface with the viewer’s member ID and the date, right-click is disabled, the file is served inline rather than as a download, and nothing is cached. If a photograph of yours turns up where it should not, that stamp names the member it was released to.

Can I take back access I already gave?

Yes, at any time. Open Requests, find the accepted request, and press Remove access. They lose the photographs or the number immediately.

Is my phone number ever shown publicly?

Never. It is released only to a member whose request you accepted. If you have filled in a guardian name and mobile, those are shown alongside your number rather than instead of it, so the family can take the first conversation — give a number you are willing to be reached on.

Do you sell member data?

No. We do not sell, rent or share member data with advertisers, data brokers or other matchmaking services. The privacy policy sets out everything we store and for how long.

Do I have to upload a photograph?

No, and we would rather say so plainly than let anyone assume otherwise. In a great many Pakistani families a daughter’s picture is simply not circulated, and forcing one would either turn those families away or push them into sharing something they are uncomfortable with. A profile without photographs is listed identically to any other, is never ranked lower and carries no mark. You pick one of three positions and it is stated openly on your profile: share when I accept a request, share only after the families have spoken, or I prefer not to share photographs at all.

What if somebody requests photos and I have none?

They cannot. If you have uploaded nothing, or have chosen not to share photographs, the request button does not appear on your profile at all. Nobody is left waiting for an answer you were never going to give, and you are never put in the position of refusing.

Requests and connections

What happens when I send a request?

The other member is emailed and sees it on their Requests page. They can read your whole profile before deciding. They accept or decline, and you are told the outcome. Nothing of theirs is shared on a decline, and nothing of yours was shared by asking.

Will I know why somebody declined?

No, and neither will they if you decline. Declining is silent, needs no reason, and sends no notice. That is deliberate: a decline a family has to justify is a decline they will avoid making.

Can I send the same person repeated requests?

No. One request of each kind can be pending with a member at a time, and after a decline you cannot ask that profile again for thirty days. A request nobody answers expires by itself after seven days and your token comes back.

How many requests can I send?

Photo requests are free and never use a token. Requests for a WhatsApp number use connection tokens: one is held when you send, spent only if they accept, and returned in full if they decline or let it lapse. A membership carries ten. There is no separate daily quota — what stops bulk sending is the one-pending-request rule, the thirty-day cooldown after a decline, and the fact that a token is held the moment you ask.

Can I attach a message to a request?

A single note of up to 200 characters, once, and it goes in the email they receive. It is not a conversation and there is no reply function.

Is there any messaging on the site?

None at all, and there never will be. The families talk on WhatsApp, after a number has been released on purpose. It is the single biggest difference between this and a dating app, and it is why a daughter’s profile can sit here without her receiving a word from a stranger.

Second marriage, divorced and widowed

Can I list for a second marriage?

Yes. Divorced, khula, widowed and separated members are full members, listed exactly like everyone else with no mark of difference, and there are pages for second marriage, divorced and widow and widower rishtas. A marital-status filter lets families who are open to it find them directly.

Are divorced or widowed profiles shown differently?

No. Same listing, same position, same everything. Marital status is a field like any other, stated openly so that nobody’s time is wasted and nobody has to raise it awkwardly later.

Can I say that I have children?

Yes, and we would encourage it. Children and who they live with are both fields on the profile. Stating it at the start filters for the families who are genuinely open to it, which is the whole point.

If a man already has a wife, what do you require?

That every legal requirement has been satisfied before he lists, including, where Pakistani law applies, the written permission of the existing wife obtained through the Arbitration Council under the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961. Obtaining it is entirely his responsibility and we do not check it. An existing marriage not disclosed on the profile gets the profile removed without refund.

Membership and payment

What does it cost?

One membership, Rs 3,000 (normally Rs 5,000) for 90 days and 10 connection tokens, the same price everywhere in the world. There is no silver, gold or platinum, no featured listing to buy and no larger package. The pricing page has the detail.

Is it really free at the moment?

Yes. During the launch period membership is free, no card is taken, and the free term runs to 14 November 2026. Everything on this page about paying applies from the day the launch offer ends.

How can I pay?

Through our payment provider, on their own secure page. You are taken there from your dashboard, you pay by card or wallet, and the provider tells us the moment it has gone through. There is nothing to type, nothing to upload and nobody at our end to wait for. While the launch offer is running there is nothing to pay at all.

How long does activation take?

Straight away. The provider confirms the payment to us and the membership switches on at that moment, with a confirmation email carrying the term and the connection tokens. Nobody checks it by hand, so there is nothing to wait for. If a payment does not go through, no membership is issued and nothing reaches us — whatever your bank or wallet is holding clears on their timetable.

Are fees refundable?

No. Once the provider confirms the payment and the membership goes live you have the whole service, and that access cannot be handed back. Paying twice is not refunded either — the second payment is credited to your account as a second full set of connection tokens, so not a rupee of what you paid is lost. If the service is interrupted it is restored rather than refunded. The one case we do refund is money that reached us through a mistake of our own for which no membership was given, and that is returned after a full investigation, with no date promised that we do not control. The refund policy sets all of it out.

Does my membership renew automatically?

No, and it cannot. No card is stored and no standing instruction is set up. When the term ends it simply ends, and nothing is charged again unless you buy another term yourself.

What happens when my membership ends?

You can no longer open another member’s profile, send a request or accept one. Your profile and your history are kept exactly as they were, so buying another term brings everything back. Unused connection tokens are held for a short grace period and then cleared, and you are emailed when that happens.

Is there anything to gain by renewing early?

In days there is nothing to gain, and in connections there is nothing to lose. A new term runs the full 90 days from the day you pay and whatever was left on the old term is not added on, so buying early buys you no extra time. Your unused connection tokens are the other way round: every purchase adds its 10 to whatever you are already holding, by itself, so none of them is ever wasted. Buy when you need the connections.

Do you issue a receipt or an invoice?

We do not issue separate receipts or invoices, and we do not email one. The activation of your membership is the confirmation. The moment the provider confirms your payment, the membership goes live and you get an email saying so, recording the term and the connection tokens it carries.

Your own record sits in your account: every payment you have made is listed under My Package with its date, amount and reference, and you can open it whenever you need it. Between that and the receipt from your own bank or wallet, the payment is documented on both sides.

Verification, samples and safety

Do you verify members?

Two things happen to every profile. One of our rishta consultants reads and assesses it, and reads it again when a member changes something substantial — checking that the biodata is consistent with itself, that the wording is the family’s own, that the same person does not already hold an account, and that nothing in it is commercial, abusive or indecent. What does not stand up is corrected with the member or taken down. Separately, we confirm that the member controls the email address they registered with. Beyond those two, nothing: we do not check identity documents, employment, income, property or marital status, and we issue no verification badges. A careful read is not a guarantee that a member’s identity, background, family or circumstances are as described, and we will not pretend that it is. The quality page sets both out at length, and so does clause 9 of the terms.

How do I know a profile is real?

You check, and we will not pretend that job is ours. Read the whole profile for internal consistency, ask for the documents behind any claim that matters, involve both families early, and never send money. The safety guidance sets out what to look at before you accept a request and what the warning signs are.

How do I report a fake profile?

Open the profile and press Report this profile, or email complaints@byahme.com with the profile ID. It costs nothing and uses no token. A person reads every report, usually within 24 hours, and the member you report is never told who reported them.

Somebody has asked me for money. What do I do?

Stop, and report the profile. No genuine rishta involves a visa fee, a medical emergency, an investment or a gift, and a request for money is the single clearest sign of fraud on any matrimonial site. If money has already gone, report it to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency on 1799 as well as to us, and take your screenshots and the transaction references with you.

Is there a phone number I can call?

No, and that is deliberate. Everything runs through your account and your email, so every request, decision and payment leaves a record you can point to later instead of a phone call nobody can verify. Email us and a person replies, usually the same working day. Anybody who telephones you claiming to be from ByahMe is not.

Your account

Can I hide my profile temporarily?

Yes. On My profile, clear the checkbox marked Show my profile in search results. Your profile disappears from search and from every listing while your account, your history and your remaining days stay exactly as they are.

How do I delete my account permanently?

You do it yourself, in under a minute, without asking us and without waiting for a reply. Open Settings from the member menu, scroll to Delete my profile, enter your password, type the word DELETE and press the button.

It happens immediately and it cannot be undone. Your biodata, your photographs and your whole request history on both sides are removed from our servers at that moment, you are signed out, and a confirmation is emailed to you. There is no thirty-day wait and nobody has to approve it.

Two things stand in front of the button, because it cannot be reversed: your password, so a phone left unlocked cannot do it, and the typed word, so a mis-tap cannot. If you only want a break, use Show my profile in search results on My profile instead — that hides you from everything while keeping your account exactly as it is.

What is actually removed when an account is deleted?

Your profile and every field on it, your photographs deleted from the server, and your whole request history on both sides — the requests you sent and the ones sent to you. All of it goes the moment you confirm, not on a schedule.

What is kept is a note that the profile reference existed and the date it closed, and the payment records attached to it, because a business has to be able to account for money it received. Neither holds your name, your photographs or your contact details. The privacy policy sets it out in full.

I have forgotten my password.

Use Forgot password on the login page. You can enter your email address, your mobile number or your profile ID — whichever you remember. The link always goes to the email address on the account, never to whatever you typed, and it is valid for one hour. So nobody can change your password without access to your inbox.

If no email arrives, check the spam folder first. If it is not there either, the account may be registered to a different address from the one you have in mind — write to support@byahme.com and a person will look.

Can I change my email address?

Your email is your login, so it is not editable from the account screen. Write to support@byahme.com from the old address and we will move it.

Can I have more than one profile?

One person, one account. Duplicate accounts are removed without refund. If you are running profiles for two of your children, each needs its own account and its own email address.

What happens if I do not log in for a long time?

An account left unused for six months is deleted, and you are emailed a warning before that happens. It keeps the database honest: a rishta site full of profiles nobody has opened in two years wastes everybody’s time.
