Rishta in Milan

The anchor of Pakistani Lombardy, fifty minutes from Brescia, with Pakistan’s consulate in the city — and a marriage procedure at the comune that turns on one document most families have never heard of.

Matrimonial matches in Milan

Largely Punjabi-origin, with strong Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin representation, and the administrative centre for a community spread across Lombardy.

Pakistani households in Milan cluster along Via Padova on the north-east side, out at Sesto San Giovanni beyond the city boundary, and south around Corvetto. Professionally the profiles run to manufacturing, logistics, retail business and agriculture in the surrounding province, which matters because most families searching a rishta in Milan filter on profession before anything else.

Two things make this city the practical centre of Pakistani Italy even though Brescia is denser. Pakistan’s Consulate General is here. And the Prefettura, the comune and the Questura are all in one place, which matters a great deal once a marriage file starts moving. Residency status and the permesso are normal opening topics in Italian rishta conversations, and nobody here finds the question rude.

On ByahMe, a Milan profile shows everything a family actually needs to judge a match: age, height, education, profession, caste and biradari, sect, family type, father’s occupation, and written partner preferences. What stays hidden is the photograph and the WhatsApp number. Those unlock only when the member accepts your request — one request, one decision, no messaging, no back-and-forth with strangers.

What a Milan rishta actually involves

For families settled here and for families in Pakistan weighing a Milan proposal. None of this is legal advice; the comune, the Prefettura and the Sportello Unico are the authorities that govern, and forms change. Confirm anything you intend to rely on.

Via Padova, Corvetto, and the fifty minutes to Brescia

Milan’s Pakistani geography is a line and two clusters. Via Padova runs north-east out of the centre and is the closest thing the community has to a high street — the grocers, the butchers, the money transfer offices and the phone shops. Corvetto sits to the south, denser and cheaper. Sesto San Giovanni is beyond the city limit to the north, an old industrial comune in its own right, which means a different town hall, a different housing certificate and a different register office from Milan proper.

That last point is the one to hold on to. In Italy the comune is the unit that matters: residence, the housing suitability certificate and the marriage publications are all handled where you actually live, not where you say you are from. A man in Sesto and a man in Via Padova are both Milan to a family in Lahore and are two different administrations to a registrar.

And then Brescia. Our Milan page and our Brescia page are really one marriage pool: the two cities are around fifty minutes apart by train and families move between them constantly for work, weddings and funerals. Search Milan, leave the area field open, and add Brescia from the start rather than treating it as a fallback.

The publications, the nulla osta, and the three-hundred-day rule

If the civil marriage is going to happen in Italy, here is what the comune will actually ask a Pakistani national for, and it is more specific than most families expect.

A valid passport, and a nulla osta under Article 116 of the Civil Code. The nulla osta is a statement that there is no impediment to the marriage under the law of your own country. It can be issued by the Pakistani embassy or consulate in Italy, in which case the signature has to be legalised by the Prefettura. Or it can come from the competent authority in Pakistan, in which case it must be translated into Italian and either legalised by the Italian mission there or apostilled under the 1961 Hague Convention.

The content is prescribed. It must give your full name, your birth details, your parents’ names, your citizenship, your residence and your marital status. If it omits the parents’ names, the comune will require a birth certificate as well — a very common extra step that costs weeks if it is discovered late.

Then the publications. Pubblicazioni are required where the foreign national is resident or domiciled in Italy. Where neither party is resident or domiciled here, they instead sign a declaration at the Stato Civile office, by appointment, at least three days before the wedding, presenting the nulla osta. The comune has a maximum of thirty days to process the request, and the service is free of charge.

Two provisions that catch people. If either party is widowed or divorced and has been single for less than three hundred days, a court authorisation is needed under Article 116 and Article 89 of the Civil Code — not a formality, an application to the tribunale. And if the applicant does not know Italian well, a translator-interpreter must assist both at the request for publications and at the ceremony itself, carrying valid identification. Book a professional; a cousin who speaks good Italian is not the point of the rule.

The apostille, and the order the Pakistani papers travel in

The authentication route changed recently and in your favour, and in our experience some of the people charging families to handle it have not caught up.

Pakistan became a party to the Hague Convention abolishing the requirement of legalisation for foreign public documents with effect from 9 March 2023. Italy has been a party for decades, and the comune’s own guidance expressly contemplates documents apostilled under the 1961 Convention as an alternative to consular legalisation. So the chain is shorter than it used to be: apostille in Pakistan, then a certified Italian translation.

It became easier again this month. On 12 October 2026 Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs introduced a digital attestation system covering both general and apostille attestation, running from the Islamabad headquarters and the liaison offices in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and Gujrat, with the certificate issued electronically by email. For families in Gujrat district, which supplies a very large share of Pakistani Lombardy, having both a local office and an online route removes journeys that used to cost days.

Get the nikah nama, the NADRA marriage registration certificate and the birth certificates apostilled through that system, then have each one translated. One caution: ask the comune which form of authentication it wants before you pay anybody, because registry offices do not all update their own counter guidance at the same speed, and it is cheaper to establish that in advance than to argue at the desk.

The consulate is in this city, and what it can and cannot do

Pakistan maintains its Embassy in Rome and a Consulate General in Milan, and the Milan mission provides attestation services. For families across Lombardy and the north that is a genuine advantage: the Article 116 nulla osta route that runs through the Pakistani mission in Italy, with the signature then legalised by the Prefettura, can be completed inside the same city rather than across the country.

Confirm which mission covers your province before you travel, because jurisdiction between Rome and Milan is set by the missions themselves and does change. And understand the limit: the consulate can attest and certify, but it cannot shorten the comune’s thirty days, cannot substitute for the housing certificate, and cannot make an imam’s ceremony into an Italian marriage.

The flat, and why the certificate is easier forty minutes east

Our Italy page explains the certificato di idoneità alloggiativa and why it defeats more applications than income ever does. Here is the specifically Milanese version of that problem.

Milan is the most expensive housing market in Italy. The certificate is issued by the comune and states how many people may lawfully live in the dwelling, so what it tests is floor area and habitability rather than the size of a wage. A man on a good Milan salary sharing a two-room flat near Via Padova with two cousins cannot certify it for a wife. A man on a lower wage in a three-room flat in Brescia province very often can.

That asymmetry is worth naming out loud, because it shapes real decisions. Several couples we see end up living in the Brescia or Bergamo belt and commuting into Milan, precisely because the housing certificate is winnable there. If a Milan proposal is otherwise good but the flat is shared, the honest question is not whether he earns enough. It is whether he is willing to move out of the city, and when.

Click day: how this community arrives, and how a brother might follow

Italy admits most non-EU workers through a quota decree rather than a continuous points system, and the mechanics are unlike anything else on this site. Families should understand it because it explains both how the men in these profiles got here and what a brother-in-law can realistically hope for.

The current decree covers 2026 to 2028. For 2026 the total is 164,850 entries: 88,000 for seasonal work, of which 47,000 are agriculture and 13,000 tourism, and 76,850 for non-seasonal employment and self-employment. Applications open on fixed dates at nine in the morning — the click day — and the windows run until the quota is exhausted or the year ends. For each year of the decree those dates are 12 January for seasonal agriculture, 9 February for seasonal tourism, 16 February for non-seasonal work from the countries with active cooperation agreements, and 18 February for family assistance work.

Pakistan is on that cooperation list, alongside the Philippines, India, Morocco, Moldova and Senegal, and the list carries 25,000 annual units for non-seasonal employee work across 2026 to 2028. That is a real door, and it is the door most of Pakistani Lombardy came through.

Two things follow for a rishta. The employer has to be ready in advance, because a click day is decided in minutes rather than weeks, so a promise that someone will be brought over next year means nothing unless an Italian employer is already lined up and the paperwork is pre-filled. And this route is not family reunification: it brings a worker, not a wife. A family that confuses the two ends up waiting for the wrong door to open. Reunification runs through the Sportello Unico on the income and housing tests set out on our Italy page, and it has no click day and no quota.

Where a Milan search widens to

Brescia first, at fifty minutes, and treat it as part of the same search rather than a second choice. Then the wider Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna belt, where nearly thirty thousand Pakistani residents live in Emilia-Romagna alone with no page of their own yet — tell us if that is where you are looking and we will say what we have. Rome is three hours south by fast train and is a genuinely different and smaller community.

Outward, Milan is the best-connected Italian city on this site. Barcelona is on the same Mediterranean arc, Paris is a night away, and Munich is straight over the Brenner — our Munich page notes that Bavarian families widen south to Milan for the same reason Milanese families widen north. Each country sets its own rules, and Germany in particular asks a wife for a language certificate that Italy does not, so read the country page before anyone becomes attached.

And the most common search from Milan remains straight back to Pakistan, most often to Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin, for the reasons our Italy page sets out in numbers.

Searching Milan profiles

Member details are never published on a public page. Register free and the search opens with full biodata on every profile.

Filter down to Milan

Set the city and you see only Milan profiles, and leave the area field open so Sesto San Giovanni and the province come through. Add Brescia from the start rather than later — fifty minutes by train, one marriage pool.

Full biodata, openly

Education, profession, biradari, sect, family type, parents’ occupations and written preferences are all visible to members. Nothing important is held back behind a paywall.

Photos stay locked

Nobody in Milan or anywhere else sees a photograph or a number until that member personally taps Accept. That rule has no exceptions and no administrative override.

Profiles connected to Milan

The six questions a Milan family asks first

Which comune, exactly

Milan, Sesto San Giovanni and the province are different administrations. Residence, the housing certificate and the marriage publications all happen where he actually lives.

Whose lease is it

The housing suitability certificate tests floor area, not income. A shared flat near Via Padova will not certify for a wife however good the wage is.

Which permesso, and how long

An EU long-term permit or a one-year work, family, study or research permit qualifies for reunification. Anything shorter does not. Ask to see the card.

The nulla osta details

It must carry the parents’ names, or the comune will also demand a birth certificate. And under 300 days since a divorce or bereavement means a court authorisation first.

Comune, not mosque

Italy has no agreement with Islam, so an imam’s ceremony here carries no civil effect. Marry in Pakistan with the papers right, or at the comune.

Biradari, sect, and Brescia

Caste and sect are open fields, so you filter before you approach. And search Brescia alongside Milan — the pool is twice the size and the rents are lower.

Rishta questions from Milan

Do you have rishta profiles in Milan?
Yes, and the list changes every week as new members join and matched members close their profiles. Rather than quote a number that would be out of date by the time you read it, we would rather you register free and look for yourself. You can also widen the search to the rest of Italy, or back home to Pakistan, from the same filter panel.
Can I see photos of Milan profiles before registering?
No. Photos stay locked on every profile, in Milan and everywhere else. You register, find a profile that fits, and send a photo request. The member sees who you are and decides. That single rule is why families trust us with their daughters’ pictures.
I live in Milan but want a rishta from Pakistan. Is that possible?
Yes, and it is one of the most common searches on the site. Set your own city as Milan and set your partner preference country to Pakistan. You will see profiles from every Pakistani city, filtered by caste, sect, education and family background.
Do you charge extra for members in Milan?
No. One price worldwide, in Pakistani rupees. A family anywhere pays exactly what a family in Lahore pays, by bank transfer, JazzCash or Easypaisa (card payment is built but not switched on yet). And during the launch period membership is free for everyone.
Is there any messaging or chat with Milan members?
None at all. We are not a dating app. Once a WhatsApp request is accepted, the two families talk on WhatsApp directly, the way a rishta has always been arranged. We introduce, then we step back.
Do you accept second marriage, divorced and widowed profiles from Milan?
Yes, on exactly the same terms as everyone else. Divorced, widowed, khula, separated and those seeking a second marriage are listed identically, with no separate section and no marker on the profile. Marital status is a field members filter on, not a category we sort people into.
What professions do Milan members work in?
Every kind. Our profession list runs to more than three hundred entries across twenty groups, from surgeon and software engineer to welder, farmer, tailor, driver, shopkeeper and homemaker. In Milan the ones that come up most are manufacturing and engineering, logistics and warehousing, retail and wholesale business, and agriculture in the surrounding province, with a growing second generation in offices, classrooms and clinics.
How do I know a Milan profile is genuine?
Two things are checked here and we will name both. Every member confirms the email address they registered with, and our rishta consultants review profiles after they are published. That is the whole of it — a mobile number is collected so it can be released when you accept a request, but it is never verified, and we do not collect CNICs at all. A careful read catches a profile that contradicts itself; it is no guarantee that a member’s identity, background, family or circumstances are as described. Beyond those two checks, verification is yours to do, and we would rather say so than sell you a badge that means nothing. Ask for documents, speak to references, and insist on a video call before any meeting.

Searching from Milan, in practice

If you are looking locally

Set your city to Milan, leave the country filter on Italy, and leave the area field open so Sesto San Giovanni and the province come through. Then add Brescia. Those two cities are fifty minutes apart and families treat them as one place; searching Milan alone throws away half the Lombardy pool.

Filter on biradari and sect first if those matter to your family, then on profession and education. Doing it in that order saves the conversation that ends badly at the third meeting.

If you are looking for a match from Pakistan

Set your own city to Milan and the partner preference country to Pakistan. Work two tracks in parallel, because the Italian steps are slow and sequential.

On the Italian side: confirm the permesso qualifies, get the income figure from the Sportello Unico in writing, and start the housing certificate early because that is the step nobody can accelerate. On the Pakistani side: apostille the nikah nama, the NADRA marriage registration certificate and the birth certificates through the Ministry’s system, have each translated into Italian, and check that the nulla osta will carry the parents’ names.

What is open on every Milan profile

  • Age, height, marital status and children
  • Sect, biradari and mother tongue
  • City, area and residency status
  • Education, field of study and profession
  • Family type, family class, parents’ occupations, siblings
  • Written partner preferences, in their own words

What stays locked

  • Photographs, until that member accepts your request
  • The WhatsApp number, until a connection is accepted
  • The email address and the exact address, always

Public cards on this page carry a reference such as BM-PK-1042 rather than a name, and none of it is written into the page itself — the listings arrive after the page loads, from a feed marked noindex, so no member is filed in a search engine under their own biodata.

Photo requests are free. A number request uses one connection token, which is returned in full if the other side declines.
