Rishta in Vehari

A cotton district where almost everybody’s income moves with the same crop — which changes what a careful family should ask, and which town it should search first.

Three towns, one crop

Vehari is a canal-colony district of southern Punjab with three tehsils — Vehari, Burewala and Mailsi — laid out on the Nili Bar when the water arrived in the nineteen-twenties and thirties. Cotton is what it grows and what it is known for, with the ginning factories, oil mills and seed trade that go with it, and a cotton research station in the town itself. Multan is about a hundred kilometres west, Khanewal north-west, Sahiwal and Pakpattan north, and the Sutlej runs along the southern edge with Lodhran and Bahawalnagar beyond it. In the town the roads families name are Model Town, Burewala Road and Multan Road.

Who lives here is the result of two separate settlements: the colony grants that filled these chaks from central and eastern Punjab, and the families who arrived at partition. People in this district sometimes say it is a little Pakistan, and they mean it as a description of how many different places its households came from. Among the names you will see are Arain and Kamboh in numbers, Jat lines such as Sial, Thaheem, Hinjra, Lar and Dhudhi, Rajput names including Bhatti, Joiya, Wattu and Dogar, with Gujjar, Awan, Sheikh, Khokhar and Mughal households, Baloch lines such as Lashari and Rind, and Syed and Qureshi families of their own standing. Caste, biradari, sect and mother tongue are open fields on every profile, so you can match on them before you approach rather than after.

On ByahMe, a Vehari profile shows everything a family actually needs to judge a match: age, height, education, profession, caste and biradari, sect, family type, father’s occupation, and written partner preferences. What stays hidden is the photograph and the WhatsApp number. Those unlock only when the member accepts your request — one request, one decision, no messaging, no back-and-forth with strangers.

What makes a Vehari search different

One crop means one bad year, and a whole district feels it at once

In a district with a mixed economy a poor season hurts some households and misses others. Here it does not work like that. When cotton has a bad year in Vehari — pest, water, weather, or a price that collapses after everyone has already spent on inputs — the grower, the ginning factory, the picker, the seed dealer, the commission agent and the shopkeeper in the bazaar all feel it in the same months. Weddings get postponed across the whole district in the same season, and they get postponed together.

And cotton has not had an easy decade. Which means a picture of prosperity from three years ago may simply not describe a household now, through no fault of its own. That is worth understanding on both sides, because it changes the question that matters.

The question is not how good the best year was. It is what this household does in a bad one. Has any land moved into wheat, maize, sugarcane, mangoes or fodder? Is there dairy or livestock alongside the crop? Is anyone in the family on a salary — teaching, government service, a job in Multan — that arrives whether the cotton does or not? Is there a shop, a tubewell, machinery let out on hire? A household with two or three of those is in a genuinely stronger position than one with more acres and nothing but cotton.

If you are the family being asked, answer it as a strength rather than a confession. Thirty acres, cotton and wheat in rotation, eight acres of mangoes, two buffalo, and my brother teaches at the government school tells a serious family that this household has thought about exactly the risk its district lives with. The word zamindar on its own tells them nothing at all.

Burewala is bigger than the district capital, so run it first

This catches people out. Vehari is the district headquarters, but Burewala is the larger and busier town — more trade, more bazaar, a bigger pool of families — and it has its own page on this site. Mailsi, down toward the river, is the third tehsil and writes its own name too.

So a member who sets the city to Vehari and stops has skipped the biggest list in their own district. Run Burewala, then Mailsi, then Vehari town, and only then decide whether the local pool is thin. And write your own tehsil on your profile rather than only the district, so that families searching the town you actually live in can find you.

The Sutlej is dry most years, which matters if the land is in the bela

Along the southern edge of this district, toward Mailsi, the Sutlej is for most of the year a wide sandy bed rather than a river. Families farm in it — the bela land is cheap, the soil is good, and in an ordinary year it pays well. Then a flood year arrives and takes the standing crop, and sometimes more than the crop.

None of that makes bela land a bad thing to own; a great many sound households here farm it and have done for generations. But it is a different proposition from canal land inside the bund, and a bride's family two districts away cannot tell the difference from the word acres. So say which it is: canal land, bela, or some of each. Say where the house is, as distinct from where the land is, because those are often not the same place here. And if the household has been through a flood year, saying what it did afterwards reads well rather than badly.

In this district, say where the family came from as well as the biradari

Because Vehari was filled twice over — by colony allotment and then by partition — two households of the same biradari here can have arrived from entirely different places and may not think of themselves as the same people at all. The caste field alone therefore under-describes a family in this district in a way it would not in an older settled one.

So add the second half: the ancestral district or the place the family came from, alongside the biradari, and the chak if the household is rural. It is one short line and in Vehari it is often the line that makes an elder say yes to a first conversation, because it is how families here place each other.

What the district does for work, written plainly

Cotton first and by a long way, with wheat, sugarcane, maize, fodder, mangoes and vegetables, and dairy and livestock throughout. Ginning factories, oil mills and the seed and pesticide trade. The grain and cotton markets and the commission trade around them. Teaching, which is a serious employer in this district, with health and government service alongside it. Transport and haulage on the Multan and Burewala roads. And a steady movement of men to Karachi, Lahore and the Gulf. On women's profiles from Vehari teaching comes up most, with health work behind it, and a household that does or does not want a working daughter-in-law should say which at the start rather than find the disagreement later.

Searching Vehari profiles

Member details are never published on a public page. Register free and the search opens with full biodata on every profile.

Run Burewala before Vehari

Burewala is the bigger town, so search it first, then Mailsi, then Vehari itself. After the district, Multan is the largest pool within reach.

Full biodata, openly

Education, profession, biradari, sect, family type, parents’ occupations and written preferences are all visible to members. Nothing important is held back behind a paywall.

Photos stay locked

Nobody in Vehari or anywhere else sees a photograph or a number until that member personally taps Accept. That rule has no exceptions and no administrative override.

Profiles connected to Vehari

The six questions a Vehari family asks first

Biradari, and where from

Arain, Kamboh; Sial, Thaheem, Hinjra, Lar, Dhudhi; Bhatti, Joiya, Wattu, Dogar; Gujjar, Awan, Sheikh, Khokhar, Mughal; Lashari, Rind; Syed, Qureshi — and the place the family came from.

Which tehsil

Burewala, Mailsi or Vehari — and the chak if the household is rural. Burewala is the largest of the three.

Canal land or bela

Inside the bund or in the riverbed, how many acres, and where the house is as distinct from where the land is.

Cotton only, or spread

Wheat, maize, mangoes, dairy, a salary, a shop. What the household lives on in a bad cotton year is the real answer.

Mother tongue

Punjabi and Saraiki both run through this district, with Urdu in town and service households. List the second language too.

Sect

An open field on every profile, so apply it early rather than discovering the difference at the third meeting when both families have started to assume.

Rishta questions from Vehari

Do you have rishta profiles in Vehari?
Yes, and the list changes every week as new members join and matched members close their profiles. Rather than quote a number that would be out of date by the time you read it, we would rather you register free and look for yourself. You can also widen the search to the rest of Punjab, or to all of Pakistan, from the same filter panel.
Can I see photos of Vehari profiles before registering?
No. Photos stay locked on every profile, in Vehari and everywhere else. You register, find a profile that fits, and send a photo request. The member sees who you are and decides. That single rule is why families trust us with their daughters’ pictures.
I live in Vehari but want a rishta from Pakistan. Is that possible?
Yes, and it is one of the most common searches on the site. Set your own city as Vehari and set your partner preference country to Pakistan. You will see profiles from every Pakistani city, filtered by caste, sect, education and family background.
Do you charge extra for members in Vehari?
No. One price worldwide, in Pakistani rupees. A family anywhere pays exactly what a family in Lahore pays, by bank transfer, JazzCash or Easypaisa (card payment is built but not switched on yet). And during the launch period membership is free for everyone.
Is there any messaging or chat with Vehari members?
None at all. We are not a dating app. Once a WhatsApp request is accepted, the two families talk on WhatsApp directly, the way a rishta has always been arranged. We introduce, then we step back.
Do you accept second marriage, divorced and widowed profiles from Vehari?
Yes, on exactly the same terms as everyone else. Divorced, widowed, khula, separated and those seeking a second marriage are listed identically, with no separate section and no marker on the profile. Marital status is a field members filter on, not a category we sort people into.
What professions do Vehari members work in?
Every kind. Our profession list runs to more than three hundred entries across twenty groups, from surgeon and software engineer to welder, farmer, tailor, driver, shopkeeper and homemaker. In Vehari the ones that come up most are cotton and canal farming, mangoes, dairy and livestock, ginning factories, oil mills and the seed trade, the grain and cotton markets, teaching, health and government service, transport, and work in Karachi, Lahore or the Gulf.
How do I know a Vehari profile is genuine?
Two things are checked here and we will name both. Every member confirms the email address they registered with, and our rishta consultants review profiles after they are published. That is the whole of it — a mobile number is collected so it can be released when you accept a request, but it is never verified, and we do not collect CNICs at all. A careful read catches a profile that contradicts itself; it is no guarantee that a member’s identity, background, family or circumstances are as described. Beyond those two checks, verification is yours to do, and we would rather say so than sell you a badge that means nothing. Ask for documents, speak to references, and insist on a video call before any meeting.

Searching from Vehari, in practice

Burewala, Mailsi, Vehari — then Multan

Set your city to Burewala first and leave the country filter on Pakistan, then run Mailsi, then Vehari itself. That order is deliberate: the district headquarters is not the district's largest town, and a member who searches only Vehari has missed most of what is close by. Khanewal, Sahiwal and Pakpattan come next, with Lodhran across the Sutlej from Mailsi.

After the district, Multan — a hundred kilometres west, with the hospitals, the universities and the professional households this district already sends its children to. Filter biradari and sect first if those matter to your family, then education, then the work; and when you read the work, read it for what the household has besides cotton.

If the proposal involves the Gulf

In a single-crop district, money sent home from abroad is often precisely the spread that keeps a household steady — which makes two questions worth asking gently and early. Is the family's stability resting on his remittances, and for how many more years does he intend to stay out there? A household that is honest about that is not confessing a weakness; it is describing how a great many families in this district actually manage.

Beyond that, the usual: set the residency field to citizen or permanent resident for genuine settled residence, and read a Gulf work visa as the separate thing it is — the months a year he is in Pakistan, which household she would live in meanwhile, and who decides about money and the children while he is away.

What is open on every Vehari profile

  • Age, height, marital status and children
  • Sect, biradari and mother tongue
  • City, area and residency status
  • Education, field of study and profession
  • Family type, family class, parents' occupations, siblings
  • Written partner preferences, in their own words

What stays locked

  • Photographs, until that member accepts your request
  • The WhatsApp number, until a connection is accepted
  • The email address and the exact address, always

Public cards on this page carry a reference such as BM-PK-1042 rather than a name, and none of it is written into the page itself — the listings arrive after the page loads, from a feed marked noindex, so no member is filed in a search engine under their own biodata.

Photo requests are free. A number request uses one connection token, which is returned in full if the other side declines.
