Rishta in Swabi
A Yusufzai district of tobacco contracts, an engineering institute and an industrial estate — so two questions matter here: who actually works the crop, and what the degree really is.
Tobacco, an institute and an industrial estate
Swabi sits between the Kabul and the Indus, with Tarbela and the reservoir along its northern edge and the Gadoon hills behind Topi. Four tehsils — Swabi, Lahor, Razar and Topi — and the places families name on a profile are Topi, Lahor, Yar Hussain, Kalu Khan and the Gadoon side. Mardan is half an hour west, Nowshera south across the river, Haripur and Attock east. For a rural district it holds an unusual amount: Pakistan's tobacco belt runs through it, the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute at Topi is one of the country's better engineering schools, and the Gadoon Amazai industrial estate put factories into hill country that had none.
This is Yusufzai ground and the khel is how families place each other. Yusufzai lines above all, with the Mansur and Razar divisions, the Khudu Khel, and the Gadun of the Gadoon side; alongside them Dehgan, Tarkheli, Mian and Syed households with their own standing, and Awan, Gujjar and Khattak families besides. Caste, khel, sect and mother tongue are open fields on every profile, so you can match on them before you approach rather than after.
On ByahMe, a Swabi profile shows everything a family actually needs to judge a match: age, height, education, profession, caste and biradari, sect, family type, father’s occupation, and written partner preferences. What stays hidden is the photograph and the WhatsApp number. Those unlock only when the member accepts your request — one request, one decision, no messaging, no back-and-forth with strangers.

What makes a Swabi search different
Tobacco is a contract crop, and somebody in the house has to cure it
Tobacco does not behave like cotton or wheat, and a profile that says farmer in this district is describing something quite particular. The crop is grown on contract: the grower is registered with a company before the seed goes in, there is usually an advance of seed and fertiliser, the price structure is set in advance, and the leaf is bought at a depot by grade. So the income is more predictable than an open-market crop — there is a buyer before there is a plant — but it is the grade that decides what the year is worth, and the grade is decided by how well the leaf was cured in the family's own barn.
Which brings up the part that belongs on a matrimonial page rather than an agricultural one. Tobacco is among the most labour-hungry crops there is. Transplanting, topping, picking leaf by leaf over weeks, stringing, loading the barn, watching the curing, then grading and bundling. On a great many Swabi holdings a large share of that work is done by the household itself, and a large share of the household share is done by the women.
So the question has to be asked, and asked plainly rather than discovered. During the season, would she be expected in the fields and at the barn? In some households, yes, as a matter of course, and it is hot, long, genuinely skilled work. In others — particularly among larger landowning families — the women do no field work at all and labour is hired. Both are entirely normal in this district. They are completely different lives.
If you are the household being asked, say which it is. And if the women of your family do work the crop, write it as the skill it is rather than leaving homemaker to stand for it. Knowing how to grade and cure leaf is expertise, and the family on the other side would rather be told than find out in her first July.
Some families here are from a village that is under the lake
When Tarbela was built, villages along the Indus in this part of the country went under water, and the households were resettled. Some stayed nearby, in Swabi and Haripur. A great many were moved a very long way — to districts in Punjab and in Sindh — and they stayed there.
Two things follow for a search from this district, and neither is obvious from a map. The first is that a family's ancestral village may be a place that no longer exists, so the question where are you from can have an answer that needs a sentence rather than a word. Write it anyway: the old village name and the present one. In this district that is how older families identify each other, and leaving it out makes a household harder to place than it should be.
The second is more useful. If your family has relatives among those resettled generations ago, you have close kin in districts nobody would think to search from Swabi — in the Punjab canal colonies, or in Sindh. Those households frequently still marry back into this district and would recognise your family at once. So if that describes you, run those districts as searches of their own rather than assuming your pool stops at Mardan. It is one of the few places on this site where the realistic pool is genuinely somewhere else entirely.
“Engineer” needs more detail in Swabi than almost anywhere
Because the GIK Institute is at Topi and because the Gadoon estate put industry into this district, the word engineer turns up on profiles from Swabi far more than the national average — and it covers an enormous range. A GIK graduate working for a multinational, a BSc from a provincial university, a DAE holder running a workshop, a man employed as a technician at a Gadoon factory: all four may reasonably write the same word, and they are not the same proposal.
That is not an argument for snobbery. It is an argument for detail, and the detail works in everybody's favour. Write the qualification, the institution, the discipline and the employer: BE Mechanical, GIK Topi, working at a plant in Hattar, or DAE Electrical, Swabi polytechnic, eleven years in a Gadoon unit. Each of those tells a family something exact and each is a perfectly good answer. The bare word tells them to assume, and people assume badly.
The same precision helps on a woman's profile, and in this district it matters more than people expect. There are young women from Swabi with real degrees — engineering, medicine, teaching qualifications — and a profile that says only educated throws that away.
Four tehsils, and the Gadoon side is a different place
Swabi, Lahor, Razar and Topi all write their own names, and so do the bigger villages — Yar Hussain, Kalu Khan, Zaida, Marghuz. Run them as separate searches before concluding the local pool is thin.
And keep one distinction in mind: the Gadoon and Amazai side is hill country with its own khels and its own feel, and it is not interchangeable with the irrigated plain around Swabi town just because both are in this district. A family that wants a daughter within easy reach of home should say which part it means.
What the district does for work, written plainly
Tobacco first, with the contracts, depots and curing barns that go with it, and wheat, maize, sugarcane, vegetables and fodder alongside, with dairy and livestock. Industry on the Gadoon Amazai estate and the technical trades that feed it. Engineering and the professions, with the institute at Topi and the graduates it sends out. Government service, teaching and health. Transport and trade on the roads to Mardan and the motorway. And a long, heavy movement of men to the Gulf, which is part of how a great many households here actually live. On women's profiles from Swabi teaching comes up most, with health work behind it and — as above — the household's own crop work, which deserves naming. A family that does or does not want a working daughter-in-law should say which at the start rather than find the disagreement later.
Searching Swabi profiles
Member details are never published on a public page. Register free and the search opens with full biodata on every profile.
Filter down to Swabi
Set the city, then run Topi, Lahor and Razar, and the Gadoon side, because each writes its own name. Mardan is half an hour west and Peshawar an hour beyond it.
Full biodata, openly
Education, profession, biradari, sect, family type, parents’ occupations and written preferences are all visible to members. Nothing important is held back behind a paywall.
Photos stay locked
Nobody in Swabi or anywhere else sees a photograph or a number until that member personally taps Accept. That rule has no exceptions and no administrative override.
Profiles connected to Swabi
The six questions a Swabi family asks first
The khel
Yusufzai with the Mansur and Razar lines, Khudu Khel, Gadun; Dehgan, Tarkheli, Mian, Syed; Awan, Gujjar, Khattak. The khel and the village together, not Pashtun.
Which tehsil, plain or Gadoon
Swabi, Lahor, Razar or Topi — and whether the household is on the irrigated plain or up on the Gadoon side.
Tobacco, and who works it
Contract acres, curing barns, and whether the women of the household are in the fields and at the barn during the season.
The qualification, exactly
Degree or diploma, the institution, the discipline and the employer. Engineer on its own covers four different lives here.
The ancestral village
Including if it is under the lake — and whether the family has resettled relatives in Punjab or Sindh.
Sect
An open field on every profile, so apply it early rather than discovering the difference at the third meeting when both families have started to assume.

Searching from Swabi, in practice
The tehsils, then Mardan — and for some families, Punjab
Set your city to Swabi and leave the country filter on Pakistan, then run Topi, Lahor and Razar as their own searches along with the bigger villages, because profiles are written under all of them. Filter khel and sect first if those matter to your family, then the work and the qualification.
Then widen the way families here already travel: Mardan half an hour west, Charsadda beyond it, Peshawar an hour away, Nowshera south across the river, and Haripur and Attock east. And if your family is among those with relatives resettled after Tarbela, add the districts in Punjab or Sindh where they went. That is an unusual instruction for a KP district and it is a real one — those households came from here, and a good number still marry back into it.
If the proposal involves the Gulf
The Gulf has taken men from Swabi for two generations, so these proposals are common and most are exactly what they appear to be. Set the residency field to citizen or permanent resident for genuine settled residence abroad, and read a work visa as the separate thing it is: the months a year he is in Pakistan, how many more years he intends on it, which household she would live in meanwhile, and who decides about money and the children while he is away.
One question belongs to a tobacco household in particular. If he is abroad, who works the contract — who is in the field in the picking weeks, who watches the barn through the curing, who deals with the depot? If the honest answer is his mother, his brothers' wives and in time hers, that should be said at the start. It is a normal and respected arrangement in this district, and a bride who is told is a bride who agreed to it.

Public cards on this page carry a reference such as BM-PK-1042 rather than a name, and none of it is written into the page itself — the listings arrive after the page loads, from a feed marked noindex, so no member is filed in a search engine under their own biodata.
Photo requests are free. A number request uses one connection token, which is returned in full if the other side declines.
